If you are trading stocks you NEED to know the terms below. I have had people try to argue why they should never learn the terms used for trading stock, and it is an argument I have never understood.

If you are trading stock, you are doing yourself a disservice by not understanding what stock is and how it is traded. This guide is stock trading 101, and a must read for anyone who trades stock.

What is stock?

Stock is ownership of a company. Companies are started by individuals, usually with their own money. When the company grows beyond a certain point, the owners may consider selling part of their company to the public. They can sell 1% of the company, or all of it.

The process is heavily regulated, and a lot of information is required about the company. Certain financials, and other documents are required. Something called an IPO (initial public offering) is released, and after that the stock is publically traded.

The stock price will vary based off of how well the company is doing, and general economic news. This is because the stock price is determined by basic supply and demand. Thousands of people look at the company information, the economic landscape and make decisions to buy the stock or sell the stock based on this information.

If they think the company's next big announcement will generate a large amount of revenue, they will buy as much stock as they can. If they think the company's headed for failure, they will sell to the next bidder.

Selling Stock is a Marketplace

When stock sells there is a buyer and a seller. In order to sell your stock, you need to find a buyer. In order to buy stock, you need to find a seller. When a price is quoted, most people will look at what is called the last price. The last price is the last trade between a buyer and selling. However, there are people who put open orders (called limit orders) out there to buy or sell a stock.

Ask Price

If someone wants to sell a stock at $10, this is called the ASK. If they are the best offer out there for a stock, the ask will be listed as $10. If you pull up a stock quote you can see what I am referring to. Yahoo finance is a great source for updated quotes. GE is a great stock to use as an example.

If you want to sell you stock, the current ask price is your competition. If you are buying, the ask price is probably what you will pay if you place your order right away.

Bid Price

If someone wants to buy a stock, the offer is called a BID. So if I wanted to buy a stock at $9 it would be listed as a bid for $9. If that is the most anyone wanted to buy it for, it would be listed on the stock quote under bid for $9.

So let's say the best bid was $9 and the best ask was $10. No trades are going to take place until someone is willing to sell for less, or someone is willing to buy for more.

Those are very basic terms. Most brokerage firms have stock brokers that you can talk to who will explain it in a little more depth, and whom you can talk to for free.

When trading stock, it is not so simple that a baby can do it, there really is a lot more to it than that.

If you don't think about your resume until you are ready to apply for a job, then you're too late. A resume is one of the most important things you'll ever write, and having a good one can make the difference between getting the job-and getting an unemployment check.

When the economy hits a downturn, the smart thing to do is be prepared. Have your resume ready, and you'll be a step ahead of the competition, no matter what happens on the job market.

Use these tips to ramp up your resume.

1. Summarize your skills.

The average recruiter spends less than ten seconds scanning a resume before deciding whether to toss it or keep it. When you look at your resume, does it make an impact that quickly? Chances are, it doesn't.

The easiest way to change that is to include a section that summarizes your job skills. Use keywords that show you have job skills that impact the bottom line. Some examples include: process improvement, revenue growth, and project management. Avoid vague keywords like: team player, people-oriented, and hard worker.

2. Highlight your accomplishments.

Many people assume that a recruiter will take the time to read every word about your prior jobs. But many jobs in this economy have hundreds of applicants, so recruiters have to be able to find the best candidates quickly.

Your resume will have a much better chance of going to the top when you take the time to highlight your accomplishments for each job. Use bullet points to set your best achievements apart. Make them quantifiable (such as dollars saved, percentages earned, or budgets managed) and/or related to business goals

3. Edit, edit, and edit again.

Edit and proofread like your job depends on it, because it does. Recruiters are looking for any reason to eliminate resumes from the pile; careless spelling or editing on your part can easily mean that you won't get the job.

Because you're already familiar with your job skills and accomplishments, you may not see the errors that others would. Enlist a friend to help edit your resume. Or try to make the resume look different when you're ready to edit: print it out on a different colored paper or in a different font, read page two before page one.

The time you invest in updating your resume is like money in the bank. No matter what happens, you'll be prepared to hit the ground running on your next job search.

2009 proved to be a year of net worth slashing for most people. Everyone was somehow affected by this meltdown of equities. A few, though, managed to make ungodly sums of money. According the Wall Street Journal, both David Tepper and John Paulson, hedge fund managers, made billions betting in the collapse of the market. These bets, also known as short selling and put options, enable many investors make money in a down market. Keep in mind that the techniques employed by these investors are were and are used by advanced traders.

I currently live in Virginia, am 28 years old, and have been investing for around six years. Towards the end of 2009 the market went up, but more than likely it is just a fluke. Anything can happen, though. Most working men, women, and families trusted advisers as to where to allocate their retirement capital. While the advice was not wrong, retirement accounts did suffer. What would have been a better option? The more it went down the more capital that should have been added. Doing this in a 401(k), 403(b), or IRA would have great tax benefits as well. In the long run it would have enabled the investor to buy more shares of companies in an index fund. An index fund is a great option for those that do not have the inclination to study the stock market on their own. There is a better way of doing it, though. That is to study the market yourself.

Investing in companies after doing your due diligence will always be the key thing to do. Just having someone point you in the "right" direction can be a dangerous thing to do. When a company that I had been tracking, handbag maker Coach (COH), went down to their lowest levels in a long time (February 2009, according to Google finance) it was time to back up the truck. What exactly did I do? I carefully studied the company and saw that the market was pricing it too low. When this occurs the investor should try their best and buy as much as they can in this situation. Now the company is up over 200%. Yes, you heard right. It is up over 200% and probably will continue to go up for the time being. Situations like these do not happen often, and it is imperative to act when it occurs.

I have never been a big fan of professional managed funds or having the right mix of assets for retirement. Anyone can, with some patience, study the market and learn as much as they can. An individual investor can certainly do a better job than a mutual fund manager because there is no pressure for them to succeed. As long as the market continues to offer undervalued but excellent companies then I will continue to do what I have been. My short and long term goals are to save and continue to invest. Now, if I only had added a few hundred-thousand dollars into my investment.

Chpt7-SecD: Should I Diversify Over Time, Or Right Away? by palynp

One of the handiest skills that I learned from obtaining an accounting degree is to properly read a corporate financial statement. This article will help you to better understand why it is important to learn to read a financial statement. This skill can come in very handy if you would like to begin investing in stocks. In fact, reading a financial statement is extremely important if you want to invest in stocks.

To the untrained eye, a financial statement can seem very complicated and overwhelming. The first step to understanding a financial statement is to understand the numerous ratios, which can be used to interpret the financial health of a company. Each ratio has a specific purpose and is derived by dividing a defined set of numbers by another set of numbers.

The purpose behind the deciphering a financial statement is twofold. The first purpose is to compare the company's current performance compared to its previous performance. Also, deciphering the financial statement is useful in comparing companies of different sizes. A large company on paper can look much more impressive compared to the smaller company. However, once some calculations and ratios are compared, the smaller company may actually be a better investment.

Using ratios will help to negate the effect of the larger sales revenue or net income a larger company would probably have. In other words, a security company which had $6 billion in sales, at first glance, may look more impressive than a smaller company that only had $3 million in sales. However, digging deeper by using ratios, you may determine the smaller company is in better financial health than the larger company.

You probably won't find a large amount of ratios calculated for you in financial reports. In fact, a company which has publicly traded stocks is required by the SEC to disclose only one ratio. That ratio is known as the earnings per share ratio, also known as the EPS. Privately owned companies, generally speaking, do not have to disclose any type of ratio in their financial statements.

It's important to realize that ratios should only be used as a guide. There are good for indicating a company's current financial health. However, they shouldn't be relied on as a sole source of information, to make an investment decision with.

An extremely telling ratio about how profitable a company is, is the gross margin ratio. This ratio is calculated by dividing the gross margin by the sales revenue. The bad news is, no company includes margin information in any form of documentation outside the company. Margin figures for company are proprietary. This information is withheld to protect it from the competition.

One handy ratio, you can use to calculate the bottom line of the company, is the profit ratio. This ratio will show you how much net income was earned per $100 of revenue obtained. The standard percentage through most industries is 5% to 10%. Within extremely competitive industries, a profit ratio of 1% is an uncommon. A good example of this would be grocery store chains.

Guide to be able to stock choice trading

Tokyo Stock Exchange Floor PC-E by A7design1

The trading of stocks and options has certainly met with a great deal of new enthusiasm as of late. Many people who have never hired a stock broker, or even traded a single stock for that matter, are being attracted to the option of trading online preferably than in the traditional manner. One of the main rationalities behind this is that most of the newer generation of stock traders have literally grown up using a personal computer for more or less any task for which it's able.

As you can probably guess, given the chance to utilize online option stock trading, this newer generation of investors will happily go online to trade. One of the advantages to online option stock trading is the power to see real time gains and losses of stocks being traded. This allows market savvy traders to be able to identify which way the stock prices have most potential to go. Another big advantage which online option stock trading offers is the chance for the trader to spot and foresee stock price variations. The ability to speculate when a price fluctuation will occur can greatly heighten the trader's profits.

Being able to foresee when a price fluctuation may happen can also enable investors to hold on to a stock longer than they would usually if they are anticipating a price surge. Naturally this also goes with its own risks, , if the trader has a bullish position, and if the price falls drastically instead of rising, then the investor could stand to lose a significant amount of capital. One of the main attributes of any successful investor is a good sense of timing.

Online option stock trading is available for all types of stocks. It makes no difference what type of stock that you may be interested in trading, because you'll find that online option stock trading covers all stocks. Want to trade common shares? You can trade it online. You will also find that you can trade issue stock, story stock, penny stock, treasury shares, synthetic stock, preferred shares, and widow-and-orphan stock.

Another huge advantage that online option stock trading offers investors is a rather fast and fairly cheap method to trade stocks. These trades can be made from anywhere that the investor can find an internet access, at home or on the road. Some of the online option stock trading websites also give investors a trial demo account so that they can practice trading before they invest any capital. These demo accounts also act as stock trading training, allowing the investors to see how everything works and to get comfortable with online trading.

One thing is for certain; before you begin online option stock trading, be sure you fully understand all of the inherent risks associated with online option stock trading. Always do your research before picking a stock, and if you're uncertain of your abilities, consult a broker.

Basic Safety Hints For Repairing Home Appliances

Ramp Finished - wideshot toward garage by NationalLumber

Whether you are handicapped or live with someone who is the prospect of building a custom home for yourself presents a valuable opportunity to incorporate a variety of items to improve your quality of life. Home designs that incorporate these features are becoming even more popular as baby-boomers move into the later years of life and seek to maintain their independence while also being able to live in a safe environment. In recent years, the concept of "Universal Design" has emerged as a leader in the design of accessible and error tolerant home construction for the handicapped and elderly.

Universal Design Trends

One floor if possible- Unless you have the money to install elevators in your home (and even so) your home design should give access to the large majority of rooms and living quarters on the first floor.

Expanded walkways and transits - When determining the position of walkways, doors, furniture, appliances and cabinetry you should expand the area and entrances to a large enough size to accommodate the handicapped and any equipment that they require. This will make their maneuverability much easier by eliminating bottlenecks and tight turns. In the bathroom, the room should be expanded and modified to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. A roll in shower is often necessary to make the daily task of bathing as effortless and safe as possible.

Ramps not steps- If there are any changes in elevation between rooms this transition should be accommodated with a ramp and not a step. Careful consideration to your layout should be given to allow these ramps to be of a slight versus steep angle and wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers.

Railings - Railings encourage safety and mobility and are essential in hard to navigate areas where the individual may need to get out of their wheelchair or along steps and ramps.

Accessible Cabinetry - For those in wheelchairs the ability to reach the sink, stove and other appliances can be severely hindered by traditional cabinets. At these areas, roll under cabinets and appliances should be installed to enhance the accessibility of the handicapped to these items. Furthermore, cabinets and shelving containing necessary item, such as dishes, food and cookware, should be at the ground level and not elevated above the counter tops.

Easy Communication - Intercom systems and Bluetooth communication devices can be incorporated into your home design to allow easy communication between the handicapped, other residents, caretakers or emergency services. Remote control devices can also be incorporated that allow for wireless control of thermostats, hearing devices and even door locks. This reduces the need for shouting or searching the house for someone and can be invaluable in an emergency.

Other Considerations

What your home requires can be as important as who you choose to build it. Seek out contractors with experience constructing handicap accessible homes in the field of Universal Design. Their insight into certain situations can be invaluable to ensuring that your home accommodates all or your needs.
